Let’s talk about returns. I think there’s a stigma against returning items that don’t work for you and that there’s a thought that now you just have to suffer with an item that doesn’t work and you’re just out of the money you spent on it to teach you a lesson. Most of the time I’ve either ‘researched’ the item I’m going to buy for a long enough time so I know I want it, or it’s not that expensive and I can usually make it work in whatever way I need to. There have been a few times recently though, where the price of the item couldn’t warrant a ‘I’ll make it work attitude’ nor could I just accept the cost and chalk it up to learning a lesson.

If you’ve read this blog before, then you know of my love for QVC. They have such great deals and their easy pay makes me more willing to try new items that I might end up loving. Most of the time I do, but here are three items I’ve returned recently for different reasons. I’m not saying these items are horrible, they just didn’t work for me (for various reasons).

Up first, the IT Cosmetics Confidence In Your Glow Blushing Bronzer & Brush a three in one product with brush that retails from QVC for $35.92 where ‘if sold separately’ it would be $85. Now I have no issue with the actual product; I love coral blush and, in the spring, I love it even more, this was a case of I found a better deal elsewhere. Not too long after I received this item Ulta was having their 30 days promo and one of the items available was the blush. Now it was $18 at Ulta so for the price of one at QVC I was able to get two different colors at Ulta. For those that were thinking the brush was worth the difference, I tried the brush, and for the life of me I couldn’t make it work for me. I don’t regret making the decision to return the one to get the two.

Next up is a return that just plum didn’t work for me at all, the bareMinerals barePRO Foundation and Brush. I got the same color that I purchased the liquid foundation in and for something that promotes it as a “pressed mineral formula delivers an ultra-smooth, silky texture that glides on effortlessly for superior customizable coverage” (from the QVC website) I could not get this cover anything on my face. I don’t have a whole lot of blemishes or other things to cover up, and when this powder couldn’t get my skin tone even I chalked it up to not enough primer. So, the next time I tried it over power, and still it didn’t really add extra coverage and barely kept me shine-free for 3 hours. I know it doesn’t promise to, but it’s supposed to offer a “matte finish”. Even with a brush, I couldn’t justify keeping this set for $48.

Now perhaps the most tragic, the Algenist Anti-Aging Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30. Why didn’t I link this item? It’s not longer for sale on QVC. Perhaps this is a good thing, but maybe it’s because it was so popular when it released that others like me, who love Algenist skin care, instantly thought hey how could this go wrong?! Let me tell you, the scent of this item lasted through the entire day, if you’re familiar with Algenist then you know the products tend to have a sea-like scent, and it was just so overwhelming in this product. The fragrance didn’t leave and I couldn’t stand smelling it all day. It was somewhere between seaweed and something that expired. I really hope that they are reformulating this item and that the deal of two for $36 remains, I would love to try it again but until that scent changes I wouldn’t waste that money.

So those are my most recent returns, and really, I think they tell the best story. Most of my smaller returns are mainly due to my rushing through Walgreens or Target. These were purchases I wanted to love and two out of the three just didn’t cut it. How about you? Any recent returns that you’ve had to do and wished you could have loved the items instead?

Now that I’m getting back into the swing of things I’m going to try a few different versions of these posts. I will always try and include a before makeup application preview, but I normally look the same at 4am so there’s not a whole lot of reason to take a new one each day, but that might change down the road. For this post we are looking at the longevity of the L’Oreal True Match Foundation in Nude Beige W3. I will do my best to include a shortcut table at the end of this post, but for those of you intrigued by how this foundation held up for me, continue reading!

I’m thinking about doing some sort of foundation set up or review schedule and I’m not sure how I’d like to set everything up quite yet, but for now I’ll give you some of my skin history so you’ll know what I’m looking for.

The second week of the QVC Advent Calendar has some ups and downs as well, I’m still not regretting the purchase and I think it gave me an idea of some other brands to go for.

Week 2:

Stowaway Day to Night 5-piece Collection w/ Bag $49.50

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best with a black pencil liner. Give me a gell or liquid and I’ll wing for days, but a pencil makes it a little harder for me. The concept of this liner, and collection, it a really nice one; they are the same product size as most other brands, but offered in a smaller easier to travel with package. I don’t travel all that much, but a liner I can put in a bag and add more to later or use to touch up does pique my interest. The liner itself is creamy and a nice deep black, not too bad for such a tiny product!

Tl;dr Works-yes, purchasing full size-I don’t love pencils, so probably not

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid $29

Ok, ok, ok….so this item is the best thing that’s happened to my oily skin in a long time! I’ve had issues with the pores on my forehead becoming clogged and then getting those little bumps, they aren’t acne but they look similar. I’ve noticed that the more often I fall asleep and forget to wash my makeup off or just don’t do a super job getting it all off I have those bumps the next day. This product gets rid of them. Now I’m not saying all your skin woes will be gone overnight, but this will help in correcting them and setting your skin in the right direction. Using this item is a little tricky though; I put it on at night and just leave it on and then wash my face in the morning. I know they mention you can wear it under makeup, but that defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Tl;dr Works-yes, beautifully. purchasing full size- I have like 3 sample sizes since a little goes a long way, but yes I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer Full Coverage Concealer $28

I’m not a fully-grown beauty blogger yet; I don’t know exactly how to apply concealer but I feel like I have a pretty good idea on how to make it work. I couldn’t get this to work for me. The texture was a little sticky, and I think that might work for the undereye area, but my color was too dark. I know this might sound a little off as well, but I find most foundations I use offer enough coverage for me to not need additional products. The shade range is not the greatest, at least on QVC, so perhaps that might make it easier when deciding to spend the money here or on another concealer of the same price…

Tl;dr Works-yes…as long as you can find your shade, purchasing full size-no, a little too sticky for all over and the color I got was too dark for just under my eyes.

Algenist POWER 360 Eye Serum $70

Why QVC?? Why give me samples of products I can’t afford?! I mean I know it’s because it’s expensive so of course I’d want a sample to make sure it works, but come on! This has a nice gel texture and sinks in effortlessly. I’ve rotated the usage of it so I don’t see an immediate change; I might also not be the prime demographic at 31 years old.

Tl;dr Works-I’d say yes, purchasing full size-no, it’s expensive and I have similar items that do an equally good job.

Peter Thomas Roth Meet Your Mask Kit with Mask Tasker Tool

I love me a good mask. I usually have about 5-6 samples rotating thanks to Birchbox and Target. This one is a nice staple to have. I have oily skin and this one doesn’t irritate it or cause any weird things to happen. I’ve linked the sample pack, which is a nice price but they sell the full sizes of all of them.

Tl;dr Works-yes, purchasing full size-maybe not full, but this sample pack, yes.

Kopari Coconut Melt, 7 oz $38

When are we going to admit that coconut oil is not the end all be all God send? This package legit says 100% pure coconut oil…really? Ok I know that what I get in the grocery store may not be as ‘pure’ or acquired in the same fashion, but there are health food stores that sell oil labeled the same way that doesn’t cost $38. This container has been sitting on my desk this week and it’s already in pure liquid form since the melting point is so low. I can’t use this oil on my body, it just takes too long to sink in. A light oil like almost or avocado works similarly.

Tl;dr Works-?, purchasing full size-I think I have coconut oil in my cabinet…

Obliphica Seaberry Hair Mask 2.54 oz $14

Remember earlier when I said I loved me some masks? Well hair ones are no different! I’m still working on my hair journey and trying to pinpoint what my type is but I think I have a decent picture of it. My hair is oily at the roots at day 3, and dry at the ends. I have thick wavy hair that tangles easily. This particular offering is meant for thinner hair, but I can still see the effects on my thicker hair. The scent was nice, like a bright berry scent, and it did get through all of my hair. After the shower my hair was softer and didn’t tangle as easily. They sell this is larger pots as well as this smaller size. They do offer the purple one, and that’s meant for my hair type.

Tl;dr Works-nicely, purchasing full size-maybe, I’d buy the one for medium hair though

There are 2 more weeks to come so keep an eye out.

I figured a good back to the normal post, would be a review of some items I had purchased during the holiday season. The items aren’t specific to the holiday season, and they can be purchased during any time of the year. These particular items are from the QVC Advent Calendar 2017. I had purchased this item last year as well, but it was an overall disappointment. I was hesitant to hop into purchasing the item again this year, but I figured buying it on sale and on QVC’s EasyPay option would really take the sting out of any items that didn’t work for me. Enough of the gabbing, let’s go;

Week 1:

ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, 1.6 fl oz $128

I think it should go without saying, but with this being an Advent Calendar, I don’t have an option of what I’m getting beforehand so each day was a surprise! It’s been a year since I’ve had surgery (more on that in another post) and because I’ve experienced a lot of weight loss, about 100 pounds, I’ve noticed a lot of loose skin. On my neck especially, there seems to be more of that wrinkly ‘chicken skin’ texture and I don’t think surgery is an answer for it; I would mainly need topical products. This particular item is mainly meant for your neck and so that’s the only place I’ve been using it and I can tell you I see a difference! Within about a week of using it the ‘chicken wrinkles’ were gone and my neck has felt smoother. Would this be replicated with normal lotions? I have a feeling I’ll have a chance to learn that soon since I don’t think I’ll be purchasing the full product-it’s just too much to justify for such a small area.

Tl;dr Works-yes, purchasing full size-no

NEST Fragrances 1.7 fl. oz. Eau de Parfum & Body Cream Duo $85

For any of you that are familiar with Nest or their fragrances, then you know how expensive they can get, but also how lovely they smell! I’ve owned one other fragrance oil from them before and I still have it since I don’t want to run out. This item was a bit different, since it’s a rollerball and the scent is different, this offered another option to the Midnight Fluer that I already own. Even though this is called Citrine, it’s a combination of freesia, lotus flower and sparkling citrus, and let me tell you as someone who loves me some floral scents, but also wants a citrus perfume, this came pretty darn close. It’s definitely a day-time scent and wouldn’t work well as an evening ‘night out’ fragrance, unless it was to a summer time party.

Tl;dr Works-yes, purchasing full size-Very tempted…the price is a bit high but it sticks around

L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream 5.2 oz. $28

This is a hand lotion…yup. Not too much to talk about there, it’s a well-known brand that offers great skin care and has some nice offers for dry skin. This particular item mainly uses shea butter, which I’ve used in the past, but I think the other ingredients they’ve partnered it with make the scent too strong for me. I love a nice clean scent, but this smelled like baby powder to me. Even after using it, the scent stayed with me and I just couldn’t get past it. I ended up giving it to a friend.

Tl;dr Works-yes, purchasing full size-no-smell was too much like baby powder

LXMI 100% Pure Nilotica Melt with Travel Size $48

Did I mention I have oily skin? I feel like this is a problem for me and the beauty industry right now since oils are all the rage. Now I know there are lighter oils, and I do use avocado oil in my eye cream, but using an item that is a balm to oil really has limited use for me. I did get a cold for a little bit during the winter break, and this did help with those really dry and red patches but I wouldn’t use this all over. They also suggest using this as an overnight mask…I can only imagine how many clogged pores I would wake up to the next day.

Tl;dr Works-balm yes; overnight mask?- ehhhh, purchasing full size-no

IT Cosmetics Confidence In a Cream Moisturizing Super Cream $48

Darn you IT Cosmetics! I really didn’t want to like your products and didn’t want to want them. During this winter I’ve had a space heater on every so often, and while my body loves it, my skin does not. So, with that happening, I’ve used this as my overnight cream and it has helped to keep the moisture in my skin even during those nights I’ve had the heater on. I was worried at first that this would be heavy on my skin and cause more issues, but if you use it lightly and dot it on then smooth it in, it really sinks in and helps keep my skin loving the winter.

Tl;dr Works-yes, purchasing full size-when I run out of samples

StriVectin TL Advanced Firming Neck Treatment Cream 1.7 oz. $85

Hey look at that, another neck tightening cream. I haven’t been able to fully try this one out since I’ve been focused on the Elemis one, but I have used this brand before and I do like it. The price point for this one is lower and they offer more gift options and packs for this choice as well.

Tl;dr Works-?, purchasing full size-when I finish the sample I will update

Pinrose Secret Genius Complete Fragrance Set with Tote Bag $55

I’ve been on a search lately to find the perfect scent for me. I love so many different fragrances and I kind of want a ‘signature scent’ but I also hate how limiting that is. There were two of these types of cloths in the box, and if it tells you anything I still have the unopened second one from last year laying around. I couldn’t find the specific scent to link above, but it’s the same brand and I can’t really fall in love with the scent or the delivery option the cloth or towelette offers. Fragrance is so specific to each person so I think these were going to always be a ‘fail’ but I decided to try one anyway and it just didn’t mesh with me. I don’t think it’s the brand’s fault-this system just didn’t really work because the scent wasn’t strong enough to last on me throughout the day, and I couldn’t spray it on my clothing to try and help it last.

Tl;dr Works-debateable, purchasing full size-no

There are 3 more weeks to come so keep an eye out.
